‘This is a portrait of my dear friend Jack. Ever since I moved to Sydney in 2019, Jack has been an invaluable friend to me through many difficult times. He has always been willing to indulge in my projects and is ever-encouraging along the way. This portrait came out of a sitting at my studio last year, shortly before Jack moved to Melbourne. At the time there was a lot on both of our plates, and we spent a few hours talking and enjoying the changing afternoon light. This stripped-back portrait captures a candid moment of Jack in thought, with the warm glow of sunset illuminating his face.’

Sarah McCloskey is an artist from Western Australia who lives and works on Wangal Country in Sydney. McCloskey’s portraiture evokes and highlights themes of familiarity, connection and universal human experiences.
